RAWALPINDI The police have decided to build walls around all the police stations, police offices and other installations due to the prevailing security situation and sought details of the cost of the project from the authorities concerned, official sources said.
The decision was taken at a meeting with Regional Police Officer (RPO) Mohammad Aslam Tareen in the chair here on Saturday.
Besides security, the meeting also discussed police performance with reference to crime situation. Some police officers had a tough time providing the RPO with information regarding the jobs they had been assigned.
The RPO asked the police officials to make all possible arrangements for the protection of their offices and police stations and build walls around the buildings.
'Principally it has been decided to build boundary walls with iron fence around all the police stations and other installations,' Senior Superintendent of Police (headquarters) Ishfaq Anwar said.
The Regional Police Officer also said in the meeting to give priority to the security of VVIPs and deploy well-trained and mentally fit security personnel for their protection.
He asked all the SHOs to review the security for mosques and other worship places and ensure all the police and security personnel displayed their departmental security cards.
It was also decided to issue passes to all visitors to police buildings besides giving stickers to police vehicles.
The RPO expressed his anger over the slow pace of work on preparing the lists of property agents, rent-a-car and motorbike dealers operating in the city and gave the deadline of Oct 20 to all the SHOs to complete the work.
Superintendent of Police Rawal Town Zariat Kiani had a tough time when the RPO expressed his anger for giving him wrong figures regarding the mohalla committees.
He directed him to suspend his office staff that had provided him wrong figures.
The city traffic officer informed the RPO that a list of encroachments had been sent to the DCO for legal action.
It was also brought into the notice of the Regional Police Officer that expatriates coming from abroad were being deprived of cash at police pickets while going to their native towns and were harassed by the police.
He warned the police officers that anybody found involved in such practices would be brought to justice.
