Musharraf`s plus points

Published August 18, 2010

THIS is apropos of a World Bank report that says that poverty was reduced to half during Pervez Musharraf's time.

I firmly believe that. prosperity was clearly visible in society. According to estimates, almost five million new jobs were created then. A record foreign investment was made.

Pakistan also touched the epic in exports, tax collection, development funds and GDP.

He may have taken many wrong decisions during his tenure but one should give the devil his due.

He allowed freedom to the media which was never ensured during civilian governments.

His vision about higher education was also unmatched.

I remember the Kashmir earthquake happened on Oct 8 and he himself reached the place on Oct 9 to look after the rescue and relief operations. A bigger tragedy took place now in the form of floods but no minister or MNA reached his constituencies until after a week.
