MUZAFFARABAD, March 6: Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan has said the government would immediately arrange medicines worth Rs10 million for the people living along the Line of Control, who were affected by the unrelenting Indian shelling.

Speaking at a briefing by the AJK health department, on Thursday, he directed the health officials to play an effective role to provide basic healthcare facilities to the people of the area, besides ensuring the availability of medicines, particularly in the remote areas.

AJK Health Minister Sardar Mohammad Yaqoob Khan, director-general health services, Dr Chaudhry Mohammad Akram, and other senior health department officials were present on the occasion.

The prime minister said that the region had a mountainous terrain, but nevertheless, provision of healthcare facilities and of all other social amenities at the doorsteps of the people was the top priority, of his government.

He said though the AJK had a vast network of health services, there was need to make it more effective, active and result-oriented.

The department, he stressed, should take measures so that the people in various districts could take full benefits of the hospitals and healthcare centres.
