If you've been following Indian cinema you would know how good an actor Shashi Kapoor is and what pivotal role he played in turning the altruistic sidekick into the integral protagonist (Kabhi Kabhi, Silsila, Do Aur Do Paanch, etc) and doing meaty parts that are not meant to grab bologna-thin commercial success (In Custody, Junoon, New Delhi Times, Shakespeare wallah, etc). Words like legend, great, thespian get dwarfed if attached to a man of his stature.

It was very thoughtful of the Filmfare management to give Shashi Kapoor this year's Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to him by Shabana Azmi during a typical Filmfare do hosted by among others Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan. Shashi was in a wheelchair with his daughter Sanjana alongside him. After Ms Azmi's usual praise-showering speech, Shashi didn't respond by a long spiel. He just said, thank you.

The thing is that during Shashi's presence there, the musicians kept playing Yamma Yamma in the background, a song from his film, Shaan. They could've done better for Shaan is not Shashi K's representative film. But what can you expect of a ceremony where 3 Idiots grabs the vast majority of awards.
