LAHORE, March 5: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) has extended invitations for its March 9 million-man Rawalpindi march to political leaders and prominent figures belonging to other walks of life.

It is for the first time that it has invited showbiz people to its any programme.

The invitation has been extended on behalf of Punjab MMA president Hafiz Idrees.

The political leaders who had been invited included Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) president Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi.

FAISAL CHIDED: Hafiz Idrees, who is also the Punjab Jamaat-i-Islami amir, has sharply reacted to Interior Minister Faisal Saleh’s statement in which he has sought clarification from the Jamaat on its alleged links with the Al Qaeda.

He said: “We neither know about Al Qaeda nor we had ever heard about it before the US propaganda (in this regard). It’s all been done by agencies.”

The Jamaat was a political party which has always enjoyed representation on the parliament as it believes in legal and constitutional struggle, he said.

Alleging that ministers had launched a character-assassination campaign against the Jamaat leaders to appease their foreign masters, he said his party had always been against terrorism and it took armed struggle in Pakistan as illegal.

Declaring Mr Saleh’s statement as irresponsible, he said it was unfortunate that the people who were wanted by the NAB have been made ministers and they were indulging in a dirty game to satisfy their masters.

He vowed that his party would continue to play its democratic role and extend support to the oppressed and the poor and the dream of banning it would never materialize.
