HYDERABAD, March 5: Research scholar Prof Azra Sarwar gave presentation on “Anglo-Sindh Relations during Talpur Period 1783-1843” for her Ph.D degree at a seminar at the University of Sindh on Wednesday.

In her presentation, the scholar said she had tried to trace the relations of the British India government with the Talpur government of Sindh.

She said she had studied the commercial and military role of the British East India Company in the sub-continent, with particular reference to Sindh, to investigate the geo-political importance of Sindh during that period. She said she had also examined treaties signed by the Talpur government and the British government.

Prof Azra said Sindh, being the gateway to the Central Asia, had always played an important role in international politics.

She said several books had been written on the British rule in Sindh but none of them had given a complete account of the Talpur period.

She observed that the history of Sindh lacked continuity and objectivity. The selective and incomplete account of events was first presented by British authors and was then followed by other Western scholars, she added.

Saying that such scholars had given a one-sided version of the events, Prof Azra stressed the need for conducting an independent research.

Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, who presided over the seminar, congratulated the scholar for her research work.

LLB EXAMS: The controller of examinations, University of Sindh, on Wednesday announced that LLB examinations of 2002 would commence from March 24.
