HYDERABAD, Nov 29: Schools and colleges remained closed here and in other parts of the interior of Sindh on third consecutive day on Thursday as teachers held a demonstration outside the Hyderabad press club in protest against increment test.

The teachers also burnt the effigy of the secretary education Sindh and pledged to continue the boycott of educational activities till the removal of the secretary.

Earlier a large number of teachers under the banner of Sindh Teachers Alliance held a general body meeting at the government high school opposite circular building here to protest against the increment test and other problems confronting the teaching community.

Speakers at the meeting said that the boycott of classes would continue till the removal of the Sindh education secretary. Kazi Aminuddin claimed that the disputed test was aimed at terminating the services of the teachers and added that such tests were not being held in Punjab, NWFP or Balochistan.

He condemned the violence against the teachers in Hyderabad and upper Sindh on Sunday last and added that a society where the builders of the nation were tortured and humiliated, could never progress.

The GSTA Sindh chief Jan Mohammad Parhiar said that the teachers were against the boycott of classes but they were forced to do so due to the negative attitude of the secretary.

He announced that the boycott of classes would continue up to Saturday throughout Sindh after which a fresh strategy would be evolved.

The president of the GSTA Ghulam Mustafa Soho said that several teachers of Larkana division had been transferred to far- flung places to victimize and pressurize them and show cause notices were also issued to them why their services should not be terminated.

He added that due to strong protest of the teachers, the transfer orders were withdrawn.

He made it clear that the teaching community would not bow down under pressure or harassment.

STRIKE TODAY: The central action committee of Sindh Employees Alliance (SEA), at a meeting held at Sachal Sarmast Arts/Commerce College here on Thursday decided to observe strike and boycott classes on Friday (Nov 30).

Ghulam Mustafa Soho presided over the meeting which was attended by the office-bearers of Sindh Professors and Lecturers Associations, GSTA, All Sindh Primary Teachers Association, Subject Specialists Association, Mosque School Teachers Association and All Sindh Lower Staff Association.

The meeting further decided to hold protest meetings at all the district headquarters under the banner of Sindh Educational Alliance.

The meeting further resolved to chalk out future line of action at the meeting of the Supreme Council of the alliance scheduled to be held on Dec 3, in Kotri.
