PESHAWAR, Nov 29: Pakistan People’s Party leader Sikandar Sherpao has condemned Northern Alliance forces for brutally killing pro-Taliban prisoners of war in a fortress near Mazar-i-Sharif.

He lamented that the massacre of prisoners despite their surrender had exposed the intentions of the “new rulers” in Afghanistan, said a statement, issued here on Thursday.

No civilized person could remain silent over the atrocities committed by the Northern Alliance on the Pakhtoons after the fall of the Taliban government in Kabul, he said. “The US government is morally bound to ensure human rights in Afghanistan.”

He demanded a high-level inquiry into what the Northern Alliance and the US termed prison riot.
