KARACHI, March 3: Secretary-general, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, and chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), Maulana Fazlur Rahman, on Monday warned that in case of a US-led attack on Iraq, people of Pakistan would be compelled to take to streets and stage widespread protest demonstrations.

“Without caring for anybody, people of the country would launch overwhelming protests against the US and its allies”, he said, while talking to Ulema during his visit to various Madaris in the city.

He said that the US would be destroyed by the fire it had set itself, as the Muslims wanted peace, but in case of war, they would retaliate severely. Islam ensures safety and peace of others, he added.

He said that after destroying Afghanistan, and ousting Taliban government, the US wanted to hold control of Iraqi oil fields, after which the Muslim countries would be at the mercy of Americans.

Slamming the Organization of Islamic Conference and the Arab League, he said that their role was “deplorable” in averting the proposed war against the people of a brotherly nation.

“People of France, Britain, Germany, Belgium and others in Europe are praiseworthy for expressing hatred against US-UK-led war against Iraq”, he said, and added that if France exercised its right of veto, the US would be left alone in the world.

Thanking the people of Karachi for turning up in “millions” during the anti-Us protest to express solidarity with Iraqi people, he said that participation of over ‘three million people’ was beyond their expectation.

Other MMA leaders, Maulana Abdul Karim Abid, Qari sher Afzal, Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai were also present. —PPI
