GUJRANWALA, March 1: The Motorway police will take over the control of the national highway from Kharian to Lahore in the second week of current month.

Motorway SSP Shariq Jamal said here on Saturday that the Motorway police had already taken the charge from Peshawar to Kharian, Lahore to Okara and Karachi to Hyderabad sections.

He said the traffic system on these sections had been revamped successfully with the enforcement of traffic rules, assistance to motorists and to extend them help in emergencies.

He said the Kharian to Lahore section had been divided into four beats while 14 inspectors, 22 sub-inspectors and four DSP as incharges had been deployed at each beat.

Elaborating, he said the Beat 26 had been fixed from Shahdara, Lahore, to Kamoki, Beat 26-A from Kamoki to Rawalpindi Bypass intersection, Beat 27 from Rawalpindi By-pass intersection to Upper Chenab Bridge, Wazirabad, and Beat 28 from Upper Chenab River Bridge to Kharian.

PLEA REJECTED: The Education department has rejected the plea of teachers of secondary schools with regard to their promotion cases.

Talking to newsmen on Saturday, EDO (Education) Dr Syed Sajjad Jaffari said that teachers had been promoted on the basis of seniority formula which was prepared by the former District Education Officer (School) in January 2001.

He said the teachers association had wrongly called for awarding them promotion as it was against the rights of teachers appointed directly in various educational institutions.

Outstanding dues of teachers in connection with their selection grades had already been cleared by the account office, he added.
