MIRPURKHAS, Nov 28: The Farmers Organisations Council, which met here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Syed Ali Gohar Shah, has set a deadline for irrigation department to correct mismanagement by Dec 20, otherwise all the office-bearers of the farmers organisations would resign and even rescind the agreements reached between SIDA and the irrigation department.

The meeting regretted that irrigation authorities were trying to fail SIDA, as they were not giving correct figures about water discharge of the Nara, Kotri and Rohri canal.

They complained that more water was being supplied to Rohri than Nara canal.

The meeting lamented that despite its several requests, the record of water discharge of all the 163 distries of Nara canal had not been hand over to the council.

The meeting was told that about 75000 acres of land of Rohri was brought under the command area of Nara canal but their share of water was not transferred to the Nara canal.

Chairman Syed Ali Gohar Shah, speaking on the occasion said that over 250 illegal pumping machine were restored, which were installed on Nara canal in district Khairpur.

He urged the authorities to appoint an engineer at the Executive Engineer post of Jamrao division and announce a rotation schedule for irrigation water distribution so that the growers could cultivate their crops according to schedules.

This was stated by the executive district officer finance, Abdul Malik Ghouri, while presiding over a meeting of the district price control committee held at the Darbar Hall the other day.

Our Nawabshah correspondent adds: Growers of tail-modules of Rukan minor have demanded of the governor Sindh to take action against Executive Engineer Dad division and SDO, sub-division Qazi Ahmed, as their 5000 acres of agricultural land was dried due to non-availability of irrigation water.

Talking to this correspondent on Wednesday, they said that watercourse No. 9R, 10R, 11R, 12R, 13R, 12L and 13L are dried due to non-availability of water while the growers of top modules either had no frames in modules or some were 12 inches wide against the allowed size of 5 inches.
