ISLAMABAD, Feb 27: Pakistan and Romania have agreed to boost the mutual trade by enhancing the business opportunities for the people of both the countries.

A plan for enhancing trade delegations and signing the different memorandums of understanding to cooperate in various business fields has also been finalized, says a Press release.

Meanwhile, the Romanian ambassador in Pakistan, Prof Dr Emil Ghitulescu, asked the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) to look for the fields in which both the countries could enjoy the highest level of business and economic cooperation.

The decisions came up in a meeting of Romanian ambassador with the ICCI President Mian Akram Farid and other office- bearers.

The ICCI president said during the fiscal 2000-2001 Pakistan‘s exports to Romania increased to US$3.22 million. The imports from Romania stood at US$ 3.22 million. The imports from Romania stood at US$ 6.97 million. The imported commodities included petroleum products, synthetic fibres and engineering goods while the exports from Pakistan have included textile, cotton and silk yarn, rice, leather, fabrics and ready made garments.

The Romanian ambassador said: “Romania and Pakistan have worked very closely to strengthen the trade ties between the two countries and the businessmen were keen to consider the ways and means of establishing joint ventures in the engineering field, transfer of technology etc.”

The ICCI officials agreed to organize an early trade delegation to Romania. The ambassador presented to the ICCI president his publication “Universal Values of Romania and Pakistan” which compares the philosophical ideas of Allama Iqbal with the Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu through elaborate translation of their respective verses into English language.
