SUKKUR, Feb 23: The Rohri and Pano Aqil police have recovered a woman, Farida, from the house of a man, Abdul Aziz, in Achhyoon Kubiyoon, who was sold by her brothers for RS70,000.

The police on Saturday, produced Farida before the session court after recovering her from confinement during a raid conducted on Saturday.

The court sent her to Darul Aman and adjourned the case till Feb 27.

The raid was conducted on the order of the session court, Sukkur, on a petition filed by Noor Mohammed Shaikh, husband of the recovered woman.

The court was informed that brothers of Farida, Sachal and Shero, asked Sheikh to send his wife to accompany them for some recreation in Rohri city.

The petitioner stated that despite the passage of four months Farida did not return home.

He contended that Farida’s brothers had “sold” her to a local landlord, Abdul Aziz, for Rs70,000, adding that the landlord was committing excesses on his wife.

The police have booked two brothers, who are now facing the charges of having sold their sister to the accused.

Farida, in her preliminary statement before the court, confirmed that her brothers forcibly handed her over to Abdul Aziz and that she was subjected to torture for the past three months.

She was medically examined in the Civil Hospital, which reported that she was three months’ pregnant.
