SHEIKHUPURA, Feb 20: Despite announcing a grant of Rs1 million by the Punjab chief minister, no rehabilitation work has so far been undertaken in the calamity-hit Makki 460 village.

This was stated by Union Council Nazim Rafique Qureshi while talking to newsmen here on Thursday.

He said three days had passed but the power supply could not be restored as electric poles were still lying on the ground. He said the situation in Negahas village was even more disastrous.

Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi visited the affected village and assured the villagers that federal and provincial governments would provide full assistance in the rehabilitation work.

The chief minister said survey teams under the supervision of Rehabilitation Commissioner had been formed to assess the damages.

He directed the officials concerned to perform the rehabilitation work devotedly as the negligence in this regard would not be tolerated.

The chief minister was also accompanied by Shaukat Aziz, advisor to the prime minister on economic and financial affairs, MNAs, MPAs, district and tehsil Nazims.
