MIRPURKHAS, Feb 20: The government should announce a special relief package for the water-starved Mirpurkhas district, which is situated at the tail-end of the Nara Canal and is facing acute water shortage for over four years.

This was stated by the president of the Mirpurkhas Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abdul Khaliq Khan, on Wednesday.

Water shortage, Mr Khan said, had affected the business activities in the Mirpurkhas district, adding that the slackened business activities had hit the business community of the major towns here.

LITERACY RATE: Three local non-governmental organizations would supervise 31 hut schools, which would be established by the Sindh government under a community-based programme to promote the literacy rate in the province.

This was decided at a meeting held here on Wednesday, which was presided over by the district Nazim, Pir Shafqat Hussain Shah Jilani.

Under this programme, salaries of the teachers would be the responsibility of the government while the space for the huts would be provided by the respective communities.

The meeting decided that the Sindh Graduates Association would supervise 11 schools, the SRPO and the ERP would supervise 10 schools each.

The meeting was informed that these schools would be set up in the seven talukas of the district.
