KUWAIT CITY, Feb 19: Kuwait authorities here on Tuesday briefed Pakistani residents here about various safety precautions, in case the US and its allies go to war with Iraq.

Col Fahad Al Shahkawi, head of Civil Defence Hawally, and his team gave the briefing at the Pakistan embassy premises.

Col Fahad said Kuwait has taken a number of steps for the safety of citizens and expatriates.

He said six emergency centres, equipped with trained staff, have been established all over the Kuwait. He said these centres had food and water reserves for one year, adding that the emergency response teams in these centres have been trained to handle emergency situations swiftly.

He said six shelters have also been established with adequate medicines and food. He advised Pakistanis that in-case of war or emergency, to tune in to Kuwait TV or the radio for necessary instructions.

He said if war broke out, all the people in Kuwait would be treated on equal basis without any discrimination.

Later the Kuwaiti team held a practical demonstration on usage of gas masks and safety tips in the event of biological and chemical attacks. The briefing was attended by a large of Pakistanis. The head of the Chancery, Dr Khalid Ijaz and Labour & Community Welfare attache Amir Hassan also attended the briefing.
