RAWALPINDI, Feb 19: Burglars and auto-thieves struck at nine different places in the twin cities, and made off with six vehicles, cash and other valuables, police said on Wednesday.
Inayatullah, a resident of Mughalabad, lodged a complaint with R.A.Bazaar police saying that he had gone to visit his relatives after locking his house. When he returned, he found the locks of his house broken. Upon listing the things, he found Rs10,000 and 60,000 Saudi riyals missing.
In another incident, Tariq Mehmood of Westridge lost $1,300 and 15 tolas of gold jewellery after burglars broke into his house, while a pickpocket deprived Mohammad Shabbir of Rs18,000 in Banni police jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, Faisal Javaid’s motorcycle (IDT-3534) was stolen from R.A.Bazaar, while Ahmed Ali Qureshi’s car (IDC-1538) was lifted from G-10/3. Similarly, another car (IDG-8796) belonging to Security and Exchange Commission was stolen from Barakahu.
Zafar Mehmood’s Suzuki car (IDD-3645) was stolen from the Civil Line area and another Suzuki van (RIX-1533) was lifted from the R.A.Bazaar police area.
The car of an official of the National Assembly was hijacked from Super Market on Wednesday night.
Police said Jawad Murtaza Naqvi, a section officer, came to Super Market in his car (IDL-1355) when two persons held him at gunpoint and forcefully entered his car. They asked him to drive the vehicle, and on reaching Zero Point, pushed him out and escaped in his car.
APP ADDS: The capital police have arrested five absconders involved in murder, dacoity and theft and seized narcotics and illegal weapons from them.
This was disclosed in a meeting held here on Wednesday to review the crime situation in the last fortnight.
The meeting, presided over by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Islamabad Syed Kaleem Imam, was attended by additional SP, DSPs and SHOs of all capital police stations.
