SWABI, Feb 19: Due to unabated rain from Saturday and leakage of their mud-houses, most of the dwellers of the katchi abadies have shifted to the safer places to take shelter.

Hundreds and thousands residents of the katchi abadies have passed through the agony and sleepless nights. Continued rain had affected their mud-houses and majority of them experienced leakage. Some of them who have shifted to safer houses of their relatives and some of them had covered the roofs of their houses with plastic sheets.

Reports reaching here from far-flung areas of katchi abadies said that various boundary walls and some mud-houses had collapsed but the people had abandoned them before that which saved them from tragic incident.

The  officials  of the district  government  and  local administration told Dawn that they had no arrangement to protect the people and the best option for the katchi abadies dwellers was that they should shift to the safer houses and remain there till the rain stopped.

Besides poor sewerage system, the roads and streets in the district headquarters and other densely populated areas inundated with rainwater and big pools of water could be seen everywhere, especially at bus stands, forcing the people and most of the government employees to stay at their homes.

The rain also affected the business activities, particularly the industrialists of the Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate said that majority of the employees could not reach for their duty while commuters faced hardship as most of the public transport remained off the road due to widespread rain.

The rain also  disrupted electricity and telecommunication system and various localities were remained cut off from the rest of the country.
