LAHORE, Feb 16: A two-man Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal delegation called on interior minister Faisal Saleh Hayat here on Saturday to discuss national security, law and order during Muharram, and other internal affairs of the country.

The team, comprising MMA coordination committee chief Liaquat Baloch and Hafiz Salman Butt, also apprised Mr Hayat of their concern over the uncalled-for arrest of Dr Khwaja Ahmad Javed’s brothers and sons.

They drew attention of the minister to the insulting attitude of police towards the masses and stressed the need for taking steps to bridge the widening gape between the law-enforcement agents and citizens.

They also exchanged views on maintenance of law and order during Muharram and decided that a representative delegation of the MMA would call on the minister to discuss the measures needed to maintain peace during the holy month.

Meanwhile, the MMA has announced that it will hold a demonstration outside the PTV station in Lahore to protest against vulgarity on the state-controlled electronic media. However, it announced no date for the demonstration.

According to MNA Liaquat Baloch, the MMA had been receiving letters and phone calls from people belonging to various cities urging the religious alliance to take steps for curbing obscenity in plays and advertisements screened by the PTV.
