ISLAMABAD, Feb 16: No accommodation is available for offices of chairmen of 25 standing committees the National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain committed three weeks ago before House Business Advisory Committee members.

The National Assembly’s first working session will begin from Feb 25.

The State Bank building where these committees’ offices were earlier located prior to Oct 12, 1999, army takeover, has been taken over by NADRA.

The National Assembly Secretariat had recently tried to retake the State Bank building for its standing committees but NADRA has blocked the move.

The Works Division informed the cabinet meeting held on Feb 10 that NADRA had refused to hand over the building to the NA Secretariat.

As the NA Secretariat has no alternative accommodation, there is strong possibility that NA Speaker might defer election of members of different standing committees until a suitable place is found for these standing committees’ offices.
