NOWSHERA, Feb 14: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad on Friday asked President Gen Pervez Musharraf to accept failure of the kind of democracy he had introduced and relinquish the office of the army chief.

Addressing a press conference at his residence here, Qazi said that the so-called clean democracy introduced by Musharraf proved no more than a hoax as horse-trading for the Senate election had assumed new height.

He warned that the situation if allowed to persist could very well threaten the office of the president itself. “The MMA and our allies are deeply concerned about it,” he said.

Commenting on the international standoff over Iraq, the Jamaat-i-Islami leader praised France, Germany, Russia and China for their bold and courageous stand in thwarting what he called the Americans design to control oil deposits.

He said that the international community should help Muslim Ummah in preempting the Americans’ goal of controlling the world resources.

He said that Pakistan also needed to review its foreign policy in conformity with the aspirations of the people.

He said that an Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal delegation had met ambassadors of France, Germany, Russia and China to put across its opinion on the Iraqi issue.

He said he was glad that those countries clearly understood its point of view and was following the same line. Qazi dubbed rulers of the Muslim world as cowards.
