KARACHI: Nawab Moinuddin laid to rest

KARACHI, Feb 14: Former ruler of the state of Manawadar, Nawab Ghulam Moinuddin Khan, was laid to rest on Friday.

The funeral prayer was led by Mufti-e-Azam Mohammed Rafi Usmani at Baitul Mukarram mosque in Gulshan-i-Iqbal. It was attended by a large number of prominent personalities.

The Soyem and Quran Khawani will be held on February 16 on Sunday after Asr prayers at C-108 Block 9, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, for ladies, and at the nearby Al Quds mosque for gents.

Nawab Ghulam Moinuddin Khan was appointed ruler of the state of Manawadar in 1934, which like Junagadh opted for Pakistan in 1947. He was jailed by the Indian authorities for three and a half years. He migrated to Pakistan in 1951.

The Indian hockey team which toured the Netherlands in 1936 was sponsored by Nawab Moinuddin Khan. Later, he became president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation.

He passed away at the age of 92. — PPI
