SUKKUR, Feb 11: The Sindh government is trying to improve standard of education at school level and more budget would be allocated for education to achieve this target.

This was said by Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar while talking to journalists at Mahar House, Ghotki, on Tuesday.

Health and education were priorities of his government, he said, adding that they were trying to upgrade every district hospital with the availability of modern equipment.

He said that the multinational companies, exploring oil and gas in Sindh, were directed by the Sindh government to employ local people in their organizations.

He said that soon after Eidul Azha, he would hold a meeting with representatives of the multinational companies to ensure that the local people were provided jobs in the companies.

Saying that his government was trying to attract investors to the province so that jobs could be provided to the unemployed youth, he added that unemployment was not a problem of Sindh alone but that of the entire country.

The chief minister said that investment climate in Sindh was very conducive and investors, particularly foreign ones, would be given maximum facilities.

Mr Mahar said that henceforth, the district police officers would be responsible for maintaining law and order in their areas.

In this regard, certain inefficient DPOs were removed while others were given an opportunity to improve their performance, he said.

He said that the people of Punjab had great love for the masses of Sindh and there was only a handful of elements, who created misunderstandings between two provinces through propaganda.

He said that his government would soon begin recruitment in the government departments on merit and no recommendation would be accepted in this regard.

He said that he did not believe in recruitment on political basis.

To a question, Mr Mahar said that those, complaining about political victimization, were liars and they were trying to mislead the people.

PROTEST: Hundreds of people blocked the Indus Highway on a section of the Kashmore-Kandhkot road on Tuesday in protest against the kidnapping of two traders, Vinod Kumar and Nanak Ram.

Earlier, they had taken out a protest rally through the main thoroughfares of Kashmore and Kandhkot. They were led by Nazim Dr Amanullah Bhutto.

They demanded senior police officials for recovering the kidnapped persons soon.
