PESHAWAR, Feb 8: The Islamic arts and crafts exhibition organized by the Cultural Centre of Iran and Directorate of Archeology, depicting contemporary Iranian art, antiques and crafts concluded here at the Peshawar Museum on Saturday.

The week-long exhibition remained open for the general public to exhibited the Iranian art and crafts, blended with labour and sentiments.

NWFP chief minister Akram Khan Durrani was the chief guest on the occasion. The organizers announced that a separate gallery for the historic and rare copies of the Quran and ancient manuscripts would be opened in the museum.

The works of Iranian artists like Saloomeh Shadmehr, Mahmoud Farshchian, Soheila, Arezuo, Shahin, Mahtab and Shehla was displayed which depicted Iranian contemporary art painted in different mediums such as water colour, oil colour, pencils, mixed media and collage.

Embossed paintings, engraved brass vases and plates depicting art of Iranian artisans was displayed in the exhibition.

Unique calligraphic pieces were the main attraction for those who had an interest in the calligraphic art. Quranic verses were written in different colours and designes.

Calligraphy, paste flower paintings of Saloomeh Shadmehr and paintings by Iranian women artists also were the main attraction for the visitors.

Saloomeh mainly worked in paste flower. The paintings showed bride decoration, fall tableau, florist all painted in the paste flower style.

A major portion of the exhibition comprised of paintings by Iranian women showing woman from different perspectives. Woman was shown as a symbol of love, peace, giving in abundance, Affection, as a vagrant, woman as colour and life and even coquetry was painted by Mahmoud Farshchain.

Some important historical events like “Events of Ashura” and a fight by Rustum was also depicted through painting.

In “A glance at Iran” section, photographs showing different tourist resorts were also exhibited.
