ISLAMABAD, Feb 7: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved a project for computerization and network enhancement of the NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, and an amount of Rs34 million will be spent on the project.

Under the project, the complete internal system of the NED University would be completely automated and online communications with other universities and with the Higher Education Commission, with industries/utilities will be initiated.

The university will also develop a portal under the project.

The project will help develop E-culture in the university and replace several paper-based internal communications, except those essential for security and for archives. Thus, the project will eventually lead to reduction groups.

The computerization and internal automation will create a better working environment. The state-of-the-art infrastructure will assist the university to complete in the ever-changing world of IT and place itself at par with the best universities of the region.

The portal developed by NED Internet Centre will facilitate the faculty, students and other interested groups.

The faculty will upload lectures which the students will view and download from the NED University website.

The portal will contain a separate website for each department of the NED University.

All useful information, like examination results, scholarships, library sciences, job opportunities, tender documents, advertisements, etc., will be placed on the portal.
