HYDERABAD, Feb 7: The general council of the Awami Tehrik at a meeting held here on Friday deliberated on the social, political and economic situation prevailing in the country with particular emphasis on the artificial shortage of water in Sindh.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Rasool Bux Palijo.

The council discussed the grave threat to world peace due to the unjust adventurist policy of the USA towards the people of Iraq.

It reiterated its opinion that “the issue of water is a matter of life and death for Sindh and the constant, brazen and shameless theft of Sindh’s share of water by the rulers of Punjab with the criminal connivance and blessings of the federal government continues unabated.”

It said that work on the greater Thal canal has not been stopped and “Wapda’s mischievous vision 2025 has not been shelved but more projects for illegal diversion of Sindh’s share of water are being commissioned.”

It said that no thought was being given for the tail-ender growers of Sindh.

It alleged that the country had broken up within 24 years due to the insatiable greed and criminal short-sightedness of the ruling class of Pakistan comprising personnel of the armed forces and the bureaucracy of Punjab who had played no role in the creation of Pakistan.

It claimed that it were Sindh and Bengal which had played a vital role for the creation of a homeland for Muslims.

The meeting expressed fear that like the Muslim Bengal the remaining part of Pakistan was also now under threat due to the unending greed and shortsightedness of the ruling class of Punjab, which for all practical purposes had thrown Sindh out of the Federation.

It pointed out that the pathetic social, political and economic conditions that Pakistan finds itself in today was not because of Sindh, which had never remained a part of the decision-making process.

The meeting observed that Sindh had nothing to do with the Kalashnikov and heroin culture.

It demanded of the ruling elite of Punjab not to take any steps which could harm Pakistan and to shelve all anti-Sindh and anti-Pakistan water projects, including the greater Thal canal.

The general council of the Awami Tehrik called upon the government of Pakistan to impress upon the USA that the sentiments and sympathies of the people of Pakistan were with the people of Iraq, especially in view of the US support to Israel against the people of Palestine.
