RAWALPINDI, Feb 2: Two women were killed, one of them burnt alive, and another person sustained burn injuries while rescuing one of the victims, in separate incidents on Sunday, police and hospital authorities said.

In the first incident, Riffat Bibi, aged 35, a resident of Chak Jilal Deen (Sadar Barooni), was burnt critically after a fire broke out in her house as a result of leakage from the pipe of a gas heater.

On hearing her hue and cry, Mohammad Nadeem, a neighbour, rushed to her rescue. However, he also sustained burn injuries, Sakina Bibi, the mother of Riffat Bibi, told the police.

Riffat Bibi, who sustained more than 90 per cent burns, was shifted to the Rawalpindi General Hospital (RGH), while Nadeem was taken to the CMH. Riffat died on early Sunday morning, while Nadeem was said to be in critical condition, the police said.

In the second incident, an aged woman was killed after being run over by a vehicle in Sadiqabad on Sunday, the police said.

The victim, identified as Khurshid Jan, aged 80, was found lying on the road with severe injuries. She was rushed to the RGH where she died, the police said.
