ISLAMABAD, Nov 26: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) has recovered Rs21.5 billion from major defaulters of power tariff in Rawalpindi-Islamabad region.

This was claimed by Iesco Chairman Brig Wasim Zafar in an interview here on Monday.

The Iesco chairman said Rs7.2 billion were recovered only during the first quarter (July-September) of the current fiscal year. He termed the highest collection as a record in the history of the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda).

Brig Zafar said beside more revenue collection, line losses had also been controlled with the deployment of army in Wapda. He claimed ratio of the line loses had been reduced from 12.5 per cent to 10.04 per cent. He said an iron hand was being used against the corrupt Wapda officials, adding cases of corruption were being sent to National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

He said services of 400 Wapda officers had been terminated so far when charges of corruption were proved against them. He further said Wapda had provided 15 per cent more connections to the consumers as compared to the last year.— PPI
