TIMERGARA, Feb 1: District Nazim of Dir Lower, Alamzeb Khan, has said that work on the multi-purpose Balambat irrigation scheme, estimated to cost Rs200 million, would start in the current financial year.
Speaking at the monthly meeting of the district council here on Saturday, the Nazim said that more than 50 irrigation channels would be constructed at a cost of Rs50 million under the scheme. The session was presided over by the convener, Mohammad Rasool Khan.
Alamzeb Khan said that work on the 11,000kv transmission line for Jandool would be initiated in the first week of February. He informed the meeting that Rs10 million had already been allocated for the purpose.
Besides, 60 villages would be provided electricity in the current year, Alamzeb said, adding that other problems relating to Wapda would also be taken up with the Pesco chief executive, Brigadier Tahir Saeed, during his visit to the district.
DHQ HOSPITAL: The Nazim said that under the standardization policy, most of the health institutions in the district would be upgraded to provide better health-care facilities to the masses. He said the DHQ hospital in Timergara would also be upgraded to category-A level at a cost of about Rs150 million.
During a surprise visit to the DHQ hospital, Alamzeb Khan inspected the proposed site for the construction of a new block and unit for the hospital.
District coordination officer Hazrat Masood Mian, heads of different government departments and elected representatives were also present on the occasion.
The Nazim was given a briefing by the officials of the Works and Services department. He was informed that 13 private rooms, two hostels for doctors, residential flats for doctors and a nursing hostel would also be constructed at a cost of Rs150 million to upgrade the hospital to category-A.
Similarly, all the specialities would be enhanced and the number of beds would be increased from 245 to 350.
The Nazim was also informed that all the required staff and medical equipments and facilities would be provided to make the hospital a complete institute.
He directed the authorities concerned to carry out the designing work and planning for the new block and unit keeping in view the future requirements.
