MUZAFFARGARH, April 18: An alleged gangrape victim says that police is harassing her family and forcing her to withdraw her case.

Alleged gangrape victim Kubra Mai, a resident of Mahmoodkot, said she was asleep in her house on April 11 when five people – Imran, Taimoor, Khizar and two unidentified people – barged in her house and kidnapped her at gunpoint. They took her to a nearby jungle and gangraped her.

She said she became unconscious and when she gained senses she found herself in the jungle near the Muzaffargarh thermal power station.

She reached home on a rickshaw in the morning. On the same day, her family approached the Mahmoodkot police station for a case against the accused and a police team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Nazeer Ahmad visited the crime scene. Police collected broken bangles and found the foot marks of the accused and the victim at the scene.

She said instead of registering the gangrape case, ASI Nazeer registered a case of torture against the accused and later on exerted pressure on her to make a settlement with the accused.

Seeing police’s reluctance, the victim family moved the additional district and sessions court to add gangrape in the case. The court ordered the medical superintendent of the Kotaddu Tehsil Headquarters hospital and her medical examination was conducted at the Gujrat Rural Health Centre on Thursday.

She alleged police were demanding bribe from her to arrest the accused.

Mahmoodkot SHO Mustafa Kamal said he was looking into the matter.

Talking to Dawn, women’s rights champion Mukhtaran Mai said she would visit Mahmoodkot to meet Kubra on Saturday. She said she would arrange legal aid for the woman.
