LAHORE, April 15: The Punjab Central Police Office activated an election cell set up in the operations branch on Monday to ensure implementation of the code of conduct for elections.

The cell, set up on the orders of Inspector General (IG) Aftab Sultan, is operating under his supervision and will submit monitoring reports of districts to him every day.

According to a handout, AIG (Operations) Ali Nasir Rizvi presented the first monitoring report to the IG about violations of the code observed in five districts.

According to the report, the Gujrat district police registered 23 cases, including three of aerial firing and eight of display of weapons, in the last three days. Police arrested 26 people and seized 50 arms, including 27 pistols, 13 rifles and nine Kalashnikovs, besides 9,345 bullets from them.

In Chiniot district, police registered four cases of illegal weapons, arrested three people and seized three repeaters, one pistol and 55 bullets from them.

In Kasur, the police reported a case of illegal weapon, arrested five people and seized one pistol from them.

In Hafizabad, police registered one case of aerial firing, two of brandishing of weapons and seven of illegal weapons. The police arrested 13 people and recovered six pistols, six rifles and one Kalashnikov from them.

Similarly, Sialkot police registered 11 cases of illegal weapons, arrested 11 people and recovered 11 arms from them.

SPECIAL UNIT: A special unit force will be made in each sector in an effort to deal with the increasing crime phenomenon on national highways and motorways.

These units will have two wings – a crime fighting squad and an investigation cell – working under the supervision of the sector commander.

“We will continue serving the public, enforcing law and to provide safe journey to commuters on highways,” said Inspector General of National Highways & Motorways Police Zafar Abbas Lak at a prize distribution ceremony for patrolling officers of N-5 Central zone.

The officers had gunned down a robber during an exchange of fire at 37 Wala Phatak near Chichawatni a few days.
