KARACHI: Training camp for Pakistan cueists in preparation for the 29th Asian Snooker Championship commenced at the Khurram Agha Snooker Club, Tariq Road on Monday.

The Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation (PBSF) is conducting the camp to put the cueists in top shape for the Asian event to be played at a hotel here from April 27 to May 3.

Reigning IBSF world champion Mohammad Asif, ex-Asian number two Mohammad Sajjad, national champion Hamza Akbar, Imran Shehzad, Abdul Sattar, Babar Masih, Shahid Aftab and standby Abu Saim reported at the training camp on the opening day.

Naveed Kapdia is supervising the camp which runs from 10am to 4pm.

A spokesman for the PBSF said, “The presence of world champion Asif in the camp is a big source of inspiration for the fellow players who will be learning finer points of the game from him.”

He added, “We are likely to throw a strong challenge in the championship which will be a very tough contest as Asia’s top countries are taking part in the event.”

He further said, “The holding of the championship will portray a better image of Pakistan around the world.” —APP
