ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Quami Movement have demanded the resignation of caretaker Interior Minister Malik Habib Khan, DawnNews reported.

PTI Information Secretary Shafqat Mahmood said that Khan's statement showed bias towards a political party and demanded that he resign.

The caretaker interior minister made a statement in favour Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) chief Nawaz Sharif, in which he said that the PML-N leader was the only real leader in Pakistan.

Shafqat Mahmood said that the statement made by the caretaker interior minister showed that he was partisan, thus making him unacceptable as it could have an effect in the general elections.

PPP leader Samsam Bukhari also demanded Malik Habib Khan's resignation saying that his statement puts into question his impartiality.

He also said a reference will be filed in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) over the issue.

MQM's Rabita Committee appealed to President Asif Ali Zardari and the ECP to dismiss Khan.

Meanwhile, DawnNews reported that Khan has said that he does not belong to any political party and will remain impartial.
