ISLAMABAD: Another petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking proceedings against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf under Article 6 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

This is the second petition calling to begin treason proceedings against the former president in as many days.

Filed by Abdul Hakeem Khan, former vice-chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council, the petition said Musharraf had illegally placed judges of the superior courts under house arrest.

It stated that with the March 9, 2007 deposition of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, the former president imposed his rule by force.

The petition further accused Musharraf of employing terror tactics through the state’s apparatus on May 12, 2007.

It said Musharraf's action against Chief Justice Iftikhar was declared void by the Supreme Court on July 20, 2007, adding that the former ruler again imposed martial law in the country through his November 3, 2007 emergency order.

The petition, which makes Musharraf as well as the federal government (via the law ministry) parties in the case, added that the former president also subverted the Constitution in 1999 by ousting the government of then premier Nawaz Sharif.
