LAHORE, Jan 29: Backers of favourites had a profitable afternoon, when fancied horses won five out of six events during the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

Five-year-old blue roan, My Home Land, opened his debut with an easy victory over second favourite Royal Harban. Fancied bay mare Lovely Diana beat joint favourite Royal Arrow in the second race. Dark bay, Beena Roy Baby continued favourites’ domination when he beat long shot Tiger’s Wood in the third race.

In the fourth and supporting event dark bay colt Royal Class showed his class by cruising to a narrow win over Decent Fellow in the fourth race which was packed with good sprinters. The heavily  backed even money favourite bay colt Super Star coasted home ahead of the field in the fifth and feature event. He beat second favourite Fair Boy by two lengths.

The punters ended the day on a disastrous note when  fancied chestnut Blue Champion failed to oblige them in the  sixth and last race. He was beaten by a long shot bay mare Silver Sweet on the finishing post. All events were contested over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres.

Trainer Mohammad Afzal was the only one to score a double. He sent out My Home Land in the opener and Royal Class in the fourth race.
