LAHORE, Jan 29: Six people were killed and seven others injured in two accidents in the city on Wednesday.

The police said a Lahore-bound passenger van collided head-on with a truck on Main Raiwind Road in Manga Mandi. Residents rushed to the spot and removed the injured people from the wreckage of the two vehicles.

Two men died on the spot and eight others were injured. They were rushed to different hospitals. Of them, three other men succumbed to their injuries later in the evening while another five were stated to be in critical condition.

Those killed were identified as Kaka, the conductor of the van, Muhammad Rafiq, Masood Akhtar, Dilshad Ali and Muhammad Akhtar, all passengers.

A man was killed while his cousin and a nephew sustained injuries in another accident on Allama Iqbal Road in Garhi Shahu.

The police said Zubair, 25, his cousin, Faiza, and a nephew, Zain, were on their way to attend the funeral prayers for a relative when he lost control over his motorcycle and struck against the wall.

Passersby immediately took them to hospital. Zubair was pronounced dead on arrival and the other two injured people were stated to be in serious condition till late night.— Reporter
