HYDERABAD, Jan 29: The chairman, Labour Committee, District Council, Hyderabad, Rana Mehmood Ali Khan, has pointed out that the Social Security Hospital at Ganjo Takkar was lying closed because it had been occupied by the Rangers, the workers were being supplied substandard medicines, and the critically ill patients were not receiving proper attention.

He said this at a meeting of the labour committee, which was held on Wednesday to receive briefing from the officials of the Social Security.

The meeting was informed that only 787 organizations were registered with the Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI), 379 enterprises were lying closed, and 12,025 workers employed in 408 organizations were eligible for registration.

The Social Security officials further said that only 10,420 workers were registered with the social security institution.

About the bangle industry, the officials said that out of 29 factories, two were lying closed, and 598 bangle industry workers were registered but medical facilities were available to only 181 workers.

It was stated that the Social Security Institute had nine dispensaries in various parts of the city and two hospitals, one at Ganjo Takkar, and another in Islamabad.

The chairman of the Labour Committee, Rana Mehmood Ali Khan said that it was quite obvious that thousands of bangle industry workers were not even registered with the Social Security Institute.
