HYDERABAD, Jan 28: Around 150 residents of Bheel Colony, Nasarpur, staged a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Tuesday against land grabbers for trying to occupy the colony.
Talking to newsmen, they said the land grabbers, headed by a retired law-enforcing agency official, Gul Hameed Pandhiyani, and his brother, had tried to forcibly occupy the colony.
The protesters said around 200 miscreants attacked the colony and torched some hotels and shops in the area.
They said the police arrested four of the miscreants but their challan had not been submitted in the court.
They said they should be compensated for the loss and action should be taken against the miscreants.
The protesters threatened to commit self-immolation outside the Governor House and in Islamabad if their demands were not accepted.
They said they should be provided with protection.
WASA DRIVE: The Water and Sewerage Agency here on Tuesday said it would launch a campaign to recover dues from consumers who owed the agency Rs5,000 or more.
In a statement, issued here on Tuesday, the recovery coordinator said Wasa teams had started scrutiny of water bills and the recovery operation would be launched after Eid. Wasa said consumers, who paid their arrears in one instalment up to Feb 11, would be granted 10 per cent remission on total amount.
SPSC: The Sindh Public Service Commission, has announced the names of candidates who were interviewed by the commission for the posts of assistant sub-inspector of police, female.
The commission found 43 candidates fit and recommended their names to the Sindh government for appointment.
