MARDAN, March 26: Chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) Maulana Fazlur Rehman said here on Tuesday that they wanted to form alliance with other religious forces but religious parties were not in favour of making alliance with them.

However, he claimed that JUI would be in a position to form next government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the upcoming general elections.

Addressing a public meeting in Lundkhwar area, he said that JUI gained popularity owing to its struggle for restoration of peace in the region.

Mr Rehman claimed that law and order situation was exemplary during the government of Mutahidda Majlis-i-Amal in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that they distributed pens and books free of cost among children of Pakhtun nation when they were in power.

On other hand, ANP-led provincial government shed blood of Pakhtuns and made new records of barbarism by carrying out military operations against them, he alleged.

The rulers, who could not provide security to common man, had neither a right to rule nor they should be called leaders, Mr Rehman said.

He said that surveys conducted by different foreign organisations declared Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the least corrupt province in the country when MMA was in power. Unfortunately the province was declared the most corrupt one during the government of ANP, he said.

The JUI chief said that Pakistan came into being in the name of Islam. He said that their forefathers rendered matchless sacrifices so that Muslims of the sub-continent could live according to the teachings of Islam.

“Now we are the custodians of these Islamic values and we have to protect the country from the conspiracies of infidels,” he said.

Mr Rehman alleged that rulers had given people of the country in the slavery of America and western countries. He said that JUI would free people from slavery of those powers if it was voted into power.

He said that JUI was the only force that fought against the pro-America and western elements inside and outside the parliament and foiled their bids of implementing un-Islamic agenda in the country.

On the occasion, hundreds of workers from other political parties announced to join JUI.

Former chief minister Akram Khan Durani and former MNA Maulana Qasim also addressed the meeting.
