KARACHI, March 25: A 10-party alliance led by the PML-F decided on Monday that candidates of each party could file their nomination papers from their respective national and provincial assembly constituencies but they would have to withdraw their papers after a seat-adjustment formula had been worked out.Sources said that the decision was taken at a meeting of the 10 parties, including the PML-F, PML-N, Jamaat-i-Islami, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl, National Peoples Party, and the Sindh Tarraqi-pasand Party, in view of the limited time available for filing what they described as complicated nomination papers being issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

They said that the seat-adjustment formula was being worked out to field a consensus candidate against nominees of the PPP or its allied parties during the May 11 general elections to ensure a one-on-one contest.

The sources said that divisional committees had been formed for the selection of appropriate candidates, who would contest the elections from his party platform but would have the full support of all allied parties.

A committee headed by PML-N leader Salim Zia was also constituted in the meeting to call on Chief Election Commissioner retired Justice Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim and caretaker Prime Minister Hazar Khan Khoso to draw their attention towards incidents of pre-poll rigging.

The committee would also request the chief election commissioner and the caretaker prime minister to cancel all appointments made by the outgoing government during the past three months and also to reverse all transfers and posting orders.

The meeting, according to the sources, demanded that officials from other provinces be posted here and officials from Sindh be transferred for ensuring free and fair elections in Sindh.

It also expressed concerns over the presence of a political governor and caretaker chief minister and observed that free, fair and transparent elections could not be held in their presence.

The sources said that the meeting also decided to challenge in the Sindh High Court what was termed the unconstitutional appointment of the caretaker CM, as opposition parties in the provincial assembly were not consulted before his appointment.
