GILGIT, March 23: A lawyer was attacked by unidentified assailants while on his way home here on Saturday, creating panic among the residents, police said.

Duty official at city police station, Mr Imran, identified the lawyer as only Badar who is son of an administration official.

The police official disclosed that both the attackers riding a bike fired shots at the lawyer also on bike near suspension bridge of the city.

The official said a case has been registered against unknown people and investigation is underway. He said motive behind the life attempt was still unknown.

Meanwhile, president of the Gilgit-Baltistan High Court Bar Association Javed Iqbal advocate condemned the attack and demanded of the government to provide security to the lawyers fraternity and arrest the culprits as early as possible. He said lawyers were considering a strike on Monday.

Following the attack, police beefed up security in parts of the city and started search of vehicles and people.

EMPLOYEES’ FIRING: The services department has directed all subordinate departments to make sure that codal formalities are followed before any employee is fired.

A press release of GB information department said the services department has notified that an employee must be heard before any action is taken to terminate him from service.

“It has come to the knowledge of the higher authorities that in some departments employees were terminated without carrying out legal procedure and the right of defence was also denied to fired workers,” according to the press release.

Heads of all departments have been directed to adopt the laid down procedure in taking action against any employee.
