ISLAMABAD, Jan 27: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal has decided to launch a country-wide mass contact campaign against the possible US military action on Iraq.

The MMA supreme council, which met here on Monday, also decided to hold meetings with the ambassadors of China, Russia and France in Islamabad to persuade them to use their influence on the US in this respect. The envoys would also be apprised of the discriminatory treatment being meted out to the Muslims particularly Pakistanis living in the US.

The meeting, presided over by the alliance’s chief, Maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani, decided that the heads of its six component parties would meet the ambassadors of France, China and Russia on Wednesday. Later, a meeting with the envoys of Germany and the European Union would also be held to impress upon them to pressure the US to abandon its plan to attack Iraq.

The MMA also decided to observe Feb 5 as “solidarity with Kashmir Day”.

Those who attended the meeting included Maulana Fazlur Rahman (JUI-F), Maulana Samiul Haq (JUI-S), Qazi Hussain Ahmed (JI), Allama Sajid Naqvi (Tehrik-i-Islami) Prof Sajid Mir, Liaquat Baloch, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, Pir Ijaz Hashmi and Maulana Mohammad Yousuf.

Reviewing the prevailing political situation in the country, the MMA decided to allow its component parties to participate in the all parties conference convened by the ARD chief, Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, at Lahore on Jan 30.

It also decided to requisition an early session of the National Assembly.
