DHAKA, Nov 25: Opener Dion Ebrahim slammed his maiden century to set up Zimbabwe’s 42-run victory over Bangladesh in the second day-night international cricket match of their series here Sunday.

The opener cracked 121 as Zimbabwe raced to 309-6 after electing to bat on an easy-paced pitch and then restricted the home team to 267-9.

Bangladesh failed to put pressure on their opponents despite half-centuries from Habibul Bashar, Sanwar Hussain and Khaled Mahmud.

The tourists, who won the opening game by five wickets at Chittagong Friday, clinched the three-match series with Sunday’s victory.

The 21-year-old Ebrahim was not the only one to flay a mediocre Bangladeshi attack as Craig Wishart (68) and captain Stuart Carlisle (44) also made merry.

Ebrahim put on 108 for the second wicket with Carlisle and 124 for the fourth with Wishart.

Former Zimbabwean skipper Heath Streak chanced his arms in the closing overs, hammering a seven-ball 23 with the help of two sixes and two fours.

The Bangladeshi batsmen, however, could not score freely against a tight Zimbabwean pace attack as Streak, Gary Brent and Sean Ervine shared six wickets.

Habibul Bashar (66) and Sanwar Hossain (52) put on 115 for the fourth wicket, but failed to pose a serious threat to Zimbabwe.

Khaled Mahmud then scored a brisk 50 off 38 balls with the help of four fours and one six, but his effort came too late.

The third and final one-dayer will be played here Tuesday.
