ISLAMABAD, May 2: Pakistan’s Farhan Mahboob recorded a noteworthy upset win in the second round of the 17th Asian Individual Squash Championship defeating Malaysia’s Ong Beng Hee here on Thursday.

The 24-year-old Farhan, world No.131, crushed 22nd-ranked Hee 11-4, 11-3, 13-11. Displaying better technique, Farhan played some excellent drop shots against the 33-year-old Hee to claim the match.

Farhan’s stunning win certainly merits attention. It is to be noted that Hee, who has clinched 11 Professional Squash Association (PSA) titles during his illustrious career, is regarded as Malaysia’s all-time most successful squash player.

Meanwhile in another fixture, Nasir Iqbal of the host country maintained his winning run as he overcame Kuwait’s Ali Bader Al-Ramezi 11-7, 11-6, 11-8.

Aamir Atlas Khan also moved to the next round as he outclassed Ahmed Alsaraj of Jordan 11-6, 11-5, 11-8.

In the women’s event, Pakistan’s Maria Toor defeated Gu Jinyu of China 11-5, 11-4, 11-3.
