SWABI, March 9: Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) has conferred the second Amtul Raqeeb Award posthumously on five women teachers, a medical technician and lady health visitor, who were gunned down near Swabi interchange on January 1 by assailants when they were returning homes from Sher Afzal Banda.

A ceremony was arranged here to mark the International Women’s Day and posthumously confer the award on five women teachers namely Raheela Naz, Lubna Mahmood, Shohrat Bibi, Jamila Bibi and Hamsiyat Bibi, besides lady health visitor Nayla Naz and medical technician Amjad Ali.

The deceased were employees of the Support With Working Solutions (SWWS) – a PPAF partner organisation – and working at Sher Afzal Banda in an educational institution. To recognize their services, the PPAF awarded Rs200,000 each to the heirs of the deceased.

The ceremony was attended by close relatives of the deceased, representatives of local government departments and the PPAF besides SWWS chief executive Javed Akhtar. — Correspondent
