LAHORE, March 4: The four-member Pakistan junior squash team was honoured with cash prizes for winning the Asian Championship in Seoul last month.

Ali Bukhari, Bilal Zakir, Tayyab Aslam and Immad Fareed were part of the team, which defeated India 2-0 in the final to win the championship with Ali and Bilal winning their respective singles matches to outclass India.

The Punjab Squash Association (PSA) and a private sponsor contributed to honour the players. While the sponsor gave Rs100,000 to each player, the PSA arranged for Rs50, 000.

PSA president Amjad Noon hailed the performance of the team for their performance in South Korea.

He said the victory at the junior level was a proof that Pakistan still has the talent which made them a powerhouse in the game in the 1990s.

Meanwhile, AVM Razi Nawab, Senior vice-president of the Pakistan Squash Federation, was elected as vice-president of the Asian body.

The elections were held during the Asian championship with Razi defeating his Indian rival Srinavas by 15 to 6 votes.—Sports Reporter
