Mills to lift cane at Rs43

KARACHI, Jan 23: Sugar mills will lift sugarcane from growers at Rs43 per 40 kg with quality premium at Rs0.50 per additional 0.1 per cent recovery of sucrose in excess of benchmark of 8.7 per cent to be paid later on.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Sindh Senior Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed here on Thursday.

The meeting was also attended by provincial minister for Food and Agriculture Arif Mustafa Jatoi, Chief Secretary K.B. Rind, Secretary Agriculture, District Nazim Nawabshah and representatives of sugar mills and growers.

It was, however, decided that sugar mills of Khairpur and Nawabshah will pay Rs40 instantly and Rs3 later on.—APP
