Poet’s corner Poet’s corner in Young World is a nice section where children love to contribute their poetry. I thank the YW team for providing children with such a great platform to showcase their poetic skills. By writing poetry, children find a way to express their emotions in a healthy way.

Education Education plays an imperative role in the development and progress of any nation. Its role in the amplification of any state can, in no way, be underestimated. No country can become successful unless each citizen of the state has access to education. An educated man deals with the matters of life in a far better way than an illiterate one. Our country has been going through tough times and one of the reasons for that is the deteriorating condition of education. Government schools are in a bad state while the heavy expenses of private schools are unbearable for the lower income group. Teachers in government schools are neither properly trained nor do they sincerely perform their duties. The government should take serious actions for the betterment of education in the public sector institutes so that those who can’t afford to send their children to expensive schools can still hope to get high quality education for them. Space exploration: a waste of money! In my opinion, ‘space exploration’ is a waste of money. When we see the problems of people living on our own planet Earth, the need for space exploration seems nothing but a joke or utter callousness towards humanity! As a human being, we have responsiblities towards other people, of our own kind. Every where on our planet human beings are suffering! Some are suffering due to war and civil unrest, some are facing health problems and some have been badly affected by recession! We should invest our time, energy and money in helping these people first! Many people in the world have been living below the poverty line and they can’t afford a day’s meal so, getting education for their children is impossible for them. Instead of investing money on stuff like space exploration, we should invest in the future of this world and the human race. Every religion teaches us the same lesson — to serve humanity! Therefore, instead of wasting money on less important tasks, governments all over the world should focus on the betterment of their people. Syeda Maryum Fatima Rizvi, Karachi

Suggestions Young World is the most fascinating and superb magazine I have ever read! I would like to request the Young World team to add a ‘celebrity profile’ column in the magazine. Through this column, children will be able to know about the lives of famous people from different fields. This will surely enhance children’s knowledge and the magazine’s readership too. Also, I would like to suggest that an ‘arts and crafts’ section is also added to help readers learn and polish their creative skills. The column may include methods of making various crafts. Islands of Pakistan This is with reference to a very comprehensive article Islands of Pakistan by Emaan Thaver, in the Young World of Feb 16, 2013. I was watching an English movie on February 15 in which a lot of scenes were shot on islands. It made me think if Pakistan has any gorgeous island or not. The very next day, when I got Young World with the front page titled Islands of Pakistan, I became really excited! I turned the pages and found a thorough article with beautiful pictures about different islands of Pakistan. Then I came to know that Pakistan has 12 magnificent islands. In this feature, in-detail description and pictures of four islands namely Astola, Malan, Churna and Manora were given. It made me aware of the locations and characteristics of these islands. An island is really a marvellous place to visit when someone wants to spend some time in a relaxed mood, away from the hustle-bustle of daily life. I thank the Young World team for publishing this informative article. Zahra Nasreen, Bahawalpur
