LAHORE: Teachers from all over Punjab will come out on streets against the police for not apprehending the accused in a rape case of a teacher's eight-year-old daughter.

Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) Central President Sajjad Akber Kazmi and other leaders, including Rana Liaquat Ali and Zafar Sandhu, in a statement here on Friday said police, instead of arresting the culprit, were using delay and negative tactics in the case.

Eight-year-old daughter of Zahid Abbass, a teacher of Govt Khawaja Modle Middle School Shahadra, had been rapped in Ravi Rayan area in the precincts of Muridkey police station few days back.

Such an attitude reflected complete failure of the provincial government in maintaining law and order and also exposed its claims towards respect for teachers, they said.

The union leaders said they would set up a protest camp in front of the Lahore Press Club on Saturday and would start boycotting classes and launch series of protests if the chief minister and the inspector general police continued their lacklustre attitude towards the issue.
