QUETTA: The British Council has announced that examinations of O-Level will not be given in Quetta due to the poor law and order situation in the city, according to sources.

The sources said on Thursday that officials of the British Council had informed schools providing O-Level education in Balochistan that they would have to send their students to other cities, including Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, for the exams.

School administrations have subsequently informed parents about the decision of the British Council and advised them to make arrangements for sending their children to other cities. About 250 students — both boys and girls — have been affected by the decision.

There is resentment among parents about the decision and they termed it unjustified.

Talking to this correspondent, some of them said the security situation in Karachi or some other cities was not different from Quetta and not giving exams on this pretext made no sense.

According to them, they would have to face many problems in sending their children to other cities. They suggested that the exams could be organised in Quetta Cantonment or Serena Hotel which were considered secure places.

They called upon the British Council to review their decision in view of hardships the students would have to face in travelling to other cities.
